The Orthodox Christian Fellowship is a recognized campus group at the University of Toronto, run by students and intended for students wishing to practice and learn about Orthodox Christianity. However, anyone is welcome to join, whether they are a student or not and whether they are affiliated with U of T or not. To read more about our mission statement, please click here. Essentially, through our activities we hope to increase general awareness about what Orthodoxy is and to grow spiritually. We also hope to provide a means for those searching for meaning in their lives to discover the rich treasury of spirituality of the Orthodox Church.
History
The U of T chapter of OCF started its activities in September 2007, under the initiative of Fr. Nicholas Young, from St. Nicholas of Myra Orthodox Mission, and several interested students. In the fall term of the 07-08 school year, we held bi-weekly Vespers and discussions. In the winter term, we kept this up, but also expanded to bi-weekly Akathists.
This Year
Now in our second year of operations, we are all very excited about making the organization come alive and make a difference in the lives of students. We have all sorts of activities planned for this upcoming academic year: We will be continuing to hold regular liturgical services, and during our discussions we will be exploring the topic of some of the feasts of the Orthodox Church. These discussions will be relatively informal, and educational in nature, and will be held by Fr. Nicholas Young and other guest lecturers. In addition we are planning a number of social activities such as a movie nights, a Lenten cooking lesson, an Alms (community service) day, and more.
